Prior to coming to Hayward, Jayanti was the County Librarian/Library Director at Monterey County Free Libraries for 12 years. She has also worked at community college libraries, and in private industry.

Chicago Public Library Commissioner Chris Brown has spent his career creating opportunities for transformative learning through public libraries. Brown, who joined CPL in February 2021, leads one of the largest library systems in the world Prior to CPL, Brown most recently served as Deputy County Librarian at Santa Clara County Library District. Over his career in libraries, he has led the expansion of Sunday hours in the most under-resourced cities in Santa Clara County, Calif., collaborated with neighborhood leaders on strategic planning initiatives, led the development of the nation’s first online museum pass program and spearheaded market segmentation studies to better understand community needs. Brown is nationally recognized for innovation in libraries, including supporting veterans, parents of court-involved youth and other non-traditional library users.

John F. Szabo is the City Librarian of the Los Angeles Public Library, which serves over four million people—the largest population of any public library in the United States. He oversees the Central Library and 72 branches. In 2015, the Library received the nation’s highest honor for library service, he National Medal for Museum and Library Service, for its success in meeting the needs of Angelenos and providing a level of social, educational and cultural services unmatched by any other public institution in the city.
